A “Broken Society”

When I created this website it was to enable a space to support campaigning for people who had been treated badly or been refused a service by the NHS over the last five to seven years, as a result of the Austerity years. Neurodivergent children and their parents are among the most vulnerable and the worst treated people, a group which I am a member of. To say that events overtook me since that time would be an understatement. Below is a small list of the scandals and crises which have become symbolic of Britain’s “Broken Society”.

  • The Sewage Scandal and collapsing sewers
  • The UK Biodiversity Crisis
  • Flooding
  • The Housing Crisis & families living in emergency accommodation
  • The Cost of Living Crisis
  • The NHS Crisis in Mental Health & Maternity Services
  • Global Excess Deaths
  • The “Stop the Boats” campaign and associated anti-refugee hostilities
  • Conspiracy theories, lies and misinformation
  • Racism and a rising new Far-Right
  • The Climate Crisis
  • Grenfell Tower – the tragedy that perfectly epitomises the state of our country.

All of this is happening against a backdrop of the war in Ukraine and the Israel-Gaza conflict. I have no doubt that people would sympathise with the plight of neurodivergent children and their parents but I wasn’t sure how to make a big enough noise against the backdrop of so many things going tragically and cataclysmically wrong all at once. Instead of campaigning on one issue, I have, like so many others, ended up campaigning relentlessly on multiple fronts for multiple causes in the hope that something somewhere might make a difference for someone. People ask why I care…my answer is rare in a modern context: I care because Christ compels me to care and because Christ in me will not allow me to look away.

For Christ’s love compels us, because we are convinced that one died for all,
and therefore all died. And he died for all, that those who live
should no longer live for themselves but for him
who died for them and was raised again.

2 Corinthians 5: 14-15

Likewise, since the scale of the need and vastness of the activism in all the above areas has become completely overwhelming my soul is constantly calling out for a guiding light to illuminate the way. I follow the signs, especially the rainbows, in the hope that His goodness will lead me home. That is now what this website will ultimately become…a blog; a testimony; a story of a mystic following the signs.

Surely your goodness and love will follow me
all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the house of the Lord
forever.
